NIGHT SHELTER

The Kingsport Homeless Ministry recognizes the humanity in each of our unhoused neighbors and is eager to fill a gap in our community by opening a low-barrier night shelter at Grace House.  The space is currently under renovation, but once complete it will provide safe, dry sleeping accommodations for up to  20 unhoused women and 20 unhoused men.  Guests will also have access to laundry facilities, showers, and personal hygiene products while staying in our shelter.  In the interest of safety, Grace House’s shelter will not host families or individuals under the age of 18.

GRACE HOUSE'S SHELTER IS NOT CURRENTLY OPEN TO SERVE OVERNIGHT
GUESTS DUE TO ONGOING RENOVATIONS TO OUR BUILDING.

If you would like to assist our efforts to open Grace House's
shelter facility, we invite you to donate or volunteer with us.

What Does Low-Barrier Mean?

Being “low-barrier” means we accept our unhoused neighbors as they are and we provide a safe space for those who may have no other options.  Low-barrier shelters have limited or minimal entry requirements, making it easier for unhoused neighbors struggling with substance use, mental health, or behavioral health disorders to access shelter beds and services.  With an emphasis on relationship building and harm reduction, low-barrier shelters encourage our unhoused neighbors to utilize services by eliminating barriers to engagement.
