Interviews With Miss Jo
Meet Jo Morrison, the woman who leaned into God’s whisper and united others to serve Kingsport’s unhoused neighbors in need. Although she is no longer with us, Miss Jo continues to inspire us in our work every day. May she also be an inspiration to you!
Interviews with Miss Jo were conducted by Kathy Izard, an author, speaker, and change-maker working on homelessness and mental health in Charlotte, NC. Kathy’s award-winning book The Hundred Story Home helped inspire the grassroots movement that later became the Kingsport Homeless Ministry.
Reading Resources
Looking for something that will inspire you to be a change-maker in your community? We recommend you read The Hundred Story Home and Trust the Whisper by Kathy Izard. Both of these books have played an integral part in what the Kingsport Homeless Ministry aims to achieve with Grace House. We hope you’ll be inspired by these books to join us!
Prayers in the Park
The Kingsport Homeless Ministry’s early advocacy efforts included Prayers in the Park. These interfaith public meetings were designed to unite the community in compassionate prayer for Kingsport’s unhoused neighbors and raise awareness of the day-to-day challenges they face.
Community Meetings
Early efforts also included open community meetings that brought together Kingsport’s faith-based community, social service organizations, businesses, local government, and other concerned citizens to discuss the challenges faced by the unhoused and how best to address existing gaps in services.
